Martin, Brown and so many more …
The following questions were asked after the Trayvon Martin killing:
1. Does the state of Florida need better laws?
2. Was it racial injustice?
My answer was of course both. And now unfortunately the same questions (and a dozen more) apply to Missouri.
With Trayvon Martin, a tall skinny black kid walking in a “gated” community, it is absolutely disgusting that self-appointed neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman who shot him dead can own a gun, can conceal it & is in fact still at work prowling for victims!
Now Michael Brown, an 18-year-old unarmed black boy killed by 6 shots from a cop in Ferguson, Missouri “not only highlighted longstanding racial tensions in the suburb itself, but raises questions about the prevalence of racial profiling and police misconduct. It also reaches far beyond that, stressing ongoing issues of economic inequality, housing discrimination and unequal access to adequate education.”
And these two are not alone as “at least 5 unarmed black men were killed by police in the past month alone!” Worse, “24% of young black men said they had been treated unfairly in dealings with police in the past 30 days.”
